You can enhance equipment in the shop, the level of enhancement can not exceed the level of the shop. By enhancing your equipment you increase the item's Primary function whether it be attack, defense, etc. Effectiveness of enhancement depends on both the item type (weapon, armor, mount, etc.) and the item grade (normal, refined, rare, etc.).

Enhancing always increases the item's Secondary function by +4 troop count no matter what the item type or grade is (ie, Gold2 item ALWAYS has a primary of +128 Troop Count no matter what the item is as long as it had +4 starting count, some of the new items now have higher secondary troop counts)
